FAQ
Questions? We have answers.
Everything you might want to know about using FebHop, pricing, permissions and privacy.
Using the app Why do actions sometimes feel a little slow?
To be available on the Mac App Store, FebHop follows Apple’s requirements and runs inside the App Sandbox. Sandboxed apps cannot use the system Accessibility permission to control other apps’ windows directly, so FebHop performs window actions through the built-in Shortcuts app.
Because of this, an action may occasionally lag slightly, but everything keeps working normally. Common moves and resizes already use shorter paths, we keep looking for ways to speed things up, and we will adopt any newer technology Apple makes available as soon as we can.
Pricing and Pro Is FebHop free?
Yes. Downloading and using FebHop is free, and every feature is available right away. After a certain number of actions in a day, FebHop shows its own ads from time to time; when an ad closes, the action you started continues.
Pricing and Pro What does Pro add?
Pro removes all ads, so nothing interrupts you no matter how many actions you perform each day. Every other feature is the same as in the free version. Buy it once, or subscribe monthly and cancel anytime. Buying Pro also supports ongoing development.
Using the app How is Find Any Window different from recall and assign?
It is the same capability with a handier way to use it. Give a frequently used app its own key, such as one of F13–F19. Press it and the app’s window jumps out of the pile, recalled to your main display or assigned to the secondary display you chose.
Pricing and Pro When will I see an ad?
After your actions for the day pass a certain number, an ad appears every so many actions at random, so light everyday use rarely sees one. You can close it after a few seconds, and it also closes by itself; the action you started then continues. The count resets every day.
Pricing and Pro Can I use Pro on a new Mac?
Yes. Pro belongs to your Apple Account, not your FebHop account. Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account on your new Mac, then choose Restore Purchases in App Settings › FebHop Pro.
Pricing and Pro How can I buy Pro?
Two ways: a one-time purchase that removes ads for good, or a monthly auto-renewing subscription you can cancel anytime in your App Store account settings. Prices are shown on the App Store. Both are in-app purchases, and Apple handles the payment. On Windows, both are bought through the Microsoft Store, and Microsoft handles the payment.
Permissions and privacy Do I need a FebHop account?
No. Every window feature, and buying Pro, works without an account. The account is for cloud backups and device management: enter your email, then sign in with the code you receive. Your first sign-in creates the account, with no password to set. You can delete the account in the App or on the website at any time.
Permissions and privacy Why do I need to import a shortcut and grant access the first time?
FebHop moves and resizes windows through the system Shortcuts app, which is how a sandboxed app can work with other windows. On first launch, follow the guide to import the included shortcut and allow FebHop to control Shortcuts. You only need to do this once.
Using the app Could a Terminal command run by accident?
Adding or editing a target never runs anything. The saved command is handed to Terminal only when you press its shortcut, and Terminal still handles SSH authentication. This feature needs a separately imported optional shortcut, with Allow Running Scripts turned on in the Shortcuts settings.
Using the app Could advanced actions click the wrong thing?
Advanced actions are off by default and start only after the window has opened and been placed. Displays are checked along the way; if a display disconnects or is rearranged, a point falls out of range, or the target window is no longer in front, the routine stops immediately without retrying. A routine has at most 20 steps and runs no longer than 120 seconds.
Permissions and privacy Which permissions do advanced actions need?
Advanced actions run through a separately imported optional shortcut. The first time, macOS asks you to grant Accessibility access to Shortcuts. FebHop itself stays sandboxed and does not use Accessibility directly. The Full Screen layout for one-key launch uses the same shortcut to enter native full screen.
Permissions and privacy Does FebHop collect my data?
Window placements, shortcuts, one-key targets and other settings are stored locally on your Mac. To improve the product, FebHop counts how often each feature is used per day and on which days it is opened, without app names, window contents, addresses, commands or typing; these statistics are sent anonymously. The App asks you on first launch, and you can turn them off anytime in App Settings › Usage statistics. If you sign in, your daily total of actions and the cloud backups you upload are also synced. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Using the app What if a shortcut conflicts with another app?
On the Shortcuts page you can record any new combination, disable individual shortcuts or reset them to the recommended defaults. FebHop checks each one for duplicates and enabled system shortcuts, and flags registrations the system refuses.
Using the app Why can’t some windows be moved or resized?
Windows currently need to be visible and at least 100 pt wide and tall. Windows that are already minimized or in native full screen are not supported yet, and an app’s own minimum window size still applies.
Using the app How many displays are supported?
Every display macOS recognizes can be used. Windows move forward and back through the system display order, wrapping at either end.
Using the app How are displays numbered?
The FebHop main display is always 1, and the other displays are numbered left to right by position, as shown on the Displays page. Press ⌃⌥⌘ plus a number to move the current window straight to that display, keeping its size and relative position.
Using the app How do I stop the Dock from jumping to another display?
macOS moves the Dock to whichever display you push the pointer down against at the bottom edge. Turn on Dock lock on the Displays page, in App Settings › Dock and app switching, or from the menu bar, and the Dock stays on the display you choose, the FebHop main display by default. When the pointer reaches the bottom edge of another display, it is nudged back up (60 pt by default, adjustable from 30 to 150 pt). Hold ⌥ Option to let the Dock move.
The lock works when the Dock is at the bottom of the screen. Bottom edges that continue onto another display are left alone. The outer bottom corners of other displays are guarded too: a single touch of the bottom edge there moves the Dock, so hot corners in those corners mostly stop working while the lock is on. It needs no extra permission and doesn’t record pointer positions. If the Dock has already moved, push down once at the bottom of the chosen display to bring it back.
Using the app How do I back up or move my settings?
In App Settings, export your launch profiles, shortcuts, app placements and preferences as one JSON backup file, then import it on your new Mac. With a FebHop account you can also back up to the cloud and restore on another Mac. When restoring you can choose a backup by creation time. A backup may contain Terminal commands you saved, so keep it somewhere safe. Backups from the Mac and Windows editions cannot be restored on each other.
Using the app How long are cloud backups kept?
The cloud keeps 7 days of backups and always the newest one from each device; a backup identical to the previous one is not stored again. You can view, download and delete cloud backups in the App or on your account page on the website. For long-term keeping, also export the configuration to your Mac.
Using the app My keyboard has no F15 key. What now?
The Find Any Window key can be changed to any combination you like. If your keyboard has F13–F19, they make a very handy choice.
Systems and versions Which systems are supported?
FebHop for Mac requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. FebHop for Windows requires Windows 10 version 1809 or later, or Windows 11, on a 64-bit (x64) PC.
Systems and versions Is there a Windows version?
Yes. FebHop for Windows is free on the Microsoft Store. It brings the same layouts, display switching and numbering, saved placements, one-key launch and recall, shortcuts, advanced actions and 17 languages. On Windows it arranges windows directly, so no Shortcuts setup is needed, and the default shortcuts use Ctrl, Alt and Win in place of Control, Option and Command.
Systems and versions Can I use my FebHop account, backups and Pro on both Mac and Windows?
Your FebHop account works on both: sign in with the same email to see all your devices and cloud backups. Configuration backups cannot move between Mac and Windows, because apps, keys and displays differ between the two systems; each edition recognizes the other’s backups and will not restore them. Pro is purchased separately on each system: on the Mac through the App Store, tied to your Apple Account; on Windows through the Microsoft Store, tied to your Microsoft account.
Put every display under your command.
